Splendid, wonderful, terrible, bold many are the names that are given. A city unique, full of lights and shadows, patriot of comedy, of irony and of the pizza.
Enchants its visitors offering them breath-taking scenes, monuments that testify the splendour of gone-by eras. Amongst those that give more wonder, amazement and emotion is certainly the Cappella di San Severo situated in the oldest part of Naples, jewel of the international artistic patrimony. Inside the Chapel in the centre of the nave is placed the veiled Christ one of the most suggestive works of the world. One of the biggest masterpieces of sculpture of all time, everyone remains enchanted and admired in front of this masterpiece that exudes pain but at the same time inspires hope for all humanity. Many are the legends that come from this masterpiece, many of which were fuelled by Raimondo di Sangro Prince of Sansevero who commissioned the work by the sculpture Giuseppe Sanmartino. Inside the Chapel you can find his tomb which is severe and sober in comparison with the other monuments in the chapel. The most interesting and original part of this monument, is the big marble sheet with the inscription, that is not cut into it but stands out and does not present traces of chiselling, in fact was produced thanks to a procedure of chemical solvents thought of by the same principle. You also remain stupefied in front of the anatomic machine conserved in the underground Cavea of the chapel, which deals with 2 skeletons one man and one woman, placed in an erect position with a nearly integral artery-vein system. The machines were produced by a doctor from Palermo Giuseppe Salerno on the request of the prince, as is found in documents that have been found, which stupefies even more that evenmore given today that it is not known the procedures needed or the materials used to obtain an exceptional conservation of the blood system.
