the visit to this city can start from the Cathedral the construction of which dates back between 1080 and 1085 following the conquering of the City by Roberto il Guiscardo, constructed on homonym palaeochristian church, the construction was amplified following the finding of the remains of the Evangelistic Saint Mathew, buried in the old church in 954 and brought to the light following the demolition of the same. Many tombs are kept inside the Cathedral, amongst which is that of Pope Gregory the 7th and that of Ruggero Borsa, the son of Roberto il Guiscardo and the Queen Margherite of Durazzo and the crypt of the Patron Saint Saint Mathew. After this the visit can be continued going to the archaeological area of the Etruscan – sannita di Fratte dating back to the 6th century BC and where it is possible to see the signs of the first Etruscan sitings overturned by the Sanniti which afterwards were overturned by the Romans, the archaeological findings found in this area are conserved in the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Salerno, in which the most famous piece is represented by the bronze head of the God Apollo of the Greek Age.This Tour includes also Paestum.
